Fongs yesterday: this may be the longest best stretch in the 909 right now. However, I'm hopefull next weekend Fongs will be good for laps Rolling Eyes

South of here -everything else- is covered with up to 5".

That picture of Fong's is so sweet! Cannot wait to ride on dirt again.

If anyone thinks 909 is ride-able by Sunday, I am probably not the only one who'd like to know. Thanks for any intel.

I hiked fongs today and its good. The snowiest spot is the gully half pipe & I can probably ride it. The chute before the rock garden is clear & the garden is rideable snow. Ymmv.
The rest of 909 needs a week, or maybe fatties.

Fat Friday After work

Mercury was sort of rideable, but it had plenty of the soft slushy snow that a Fatbike just sinks into. I saw a 29er and he had the same difficulty with the slush/snow.

The trail to Bykhead (Taconic side) was passable, but plenty of snow.
I didn't make it far up Bykhead. I turned around maybe 50 feet past the bridge...all snow 5" of slush.

The roads were ok with the Fatbike, you just need to pick your line.
The melting ice was the best surface to ride on. It has texture to grip and harder than the slush.

There is a lot more snow still in the woods than you can see from the lot or the road.
Fong's Way maybe fine, and if you went early enough the snow maybe frozen and rideable, but don't expect much yet.
Gaiters and waterproof boots are still a good option if your biking. Laughing

I checked out the Yorktown trails yesterday, I've never been before. Like us they've got some snow down there, maybe more, without a fatbike you would have been pushing through 80% of it. It was much colder and most of the the crusty snow was rideable once I aired down, but occasionally had to push. Exposed singletrack dirt sections were firm, only a couple mushy spots on the doubletrack. The warmer temps this week will likely change everything though.

Too muddy this weekend would be my thought. Someone came to Bike and Board today and said it wasn't ready. And 1/2" rain tonight.

I'm hoping with the cold weather for sat night, that maybe early sun will be firm enough to test my legs on the now converted to singlespeed Fatbike. $$AP is next weekend!

Alot of trails, Timbuktu for example are soft & last nights .5" of rain didnt help. Fongs Way is still fine. Tomorrow there's enough hilly trails that will make a ride's worth... Doing that @ 9:30.
Roads & snowmobile trails are the worst.

Mercury and Mustang were dry. Bykhed was DRY. Bottom of Beaver looked very moist and still had snow/ice/slush, so I didn't touch it. Also I got cold. Anthill was fine until the bottom. I'm guessing Timbuk2 is fine except for that spot that is always wet in the spring.

Ok I have some bad news to report for some of you who have been using the snow, ice, and overall frigid temperatures as an excuse to avoid the pain in your lungs felt during your first couple of spring rides--909 is ready. Most of it is dry. There is no snow (to speak of--a tiny bit in the gut, but you can ride over it with any mtb). Now I know that many of you use another excuse to get out of the first couple of spring rides, but I know that your lawns are not yet long enough to mow. So get out and ride!!!

(I got sun burnt today.) (I wore a short sleeve jersey.)
