When does Stewart close for hunting? I remember it was earlier than I thought last year. Also is it safe to night ride during hunting season?

My understanding is that Stewart State Forest regulations (which probably still apply) specify:
Open property to all users, except during big game season; limit use during big game season to licensed big game hunters and their companions.
Regular and Bowhunting Deer Hunting seasons for 2008
October 18 to November 14 (Bowhunting)
November 15 to December 7 (Regular)
December 8 to December 16 (Bowhunting)
Will check with DEC.
