Any updates on snow in Pleasant Valley or 909? We got about 5-6 inches of heavy wet snow in my neck of the woods and I can barely get my fatbike up a little hill. Would love to ride tomorrow, but... |

There was at least an inch on the trails today, but it was pretty grippy, not icy underneath. The roots were a little slippery and the snow kept my hr up pretty good! |

I was there Sunday at noon time, it was excellent. Traction was good even with the 1" plus of snow,i was surprised .I did 1-1/2 laps of race course and came back on Timbuktu, where i ripped a sidewall and hiked the rest of the way.Feels good to be sore from a long ride again. |

Pre snow ride. Upper trails mostly firm except for Fong's which is crunchy all the way through. I was surprised at how little snow there was. No snow on Fong's, less than an inch everywhere else. Two nasty frost pits, one on the end of Beaver a bit before the pond where I endo'd spectacularly. Another on the fast trail down to Timbuk, be careful.
On a sad note, there is a pretty well established Quad trail on 2/3 of Bykehed.
Snow was coming down pretty hard when I left. |

Sad to hear about Bykhed Sean...well with my bike's shocks being rebuilt by Fox, I have quite a bit of time then to do some trail work and try to repair/block the quad trails. Which end does to start at? I'm guessing closest to the Taconic lot? In an effort to try and get more exercise, might come out early before work and get going. I'll post up if I'm heading out on a weekend. Tim, may bring my comealong and some straps to pull large rocks and block the trail so no further damage can be done? Then work on restoring the trail? _________________ Studies have shown that riding a bicycle everyday makes you more awesome than the general population. |

I rode up Bykhed today "backwards". A couple of hundred yards in there is a quad trail coming in from the left. From that point on, all the way out to the fire road (think race course backwards) is pretty well established. Heading down the fire road towards Tunnel, another quad trail heads off to the left, probably how they are getting back over to Bykhed. |

Our stewardship -or maintenance of marked trails is fairly liberal. To use a come along sounds great maybe with some notice we can make a group effort of it. The main thing when restoring the trails is to keep them safe for non-motorized use. Also -if using rocks its important to keep the old stone walls as intact as possible.
Most of us carry cameras, if you get the plate or reg. #'s please record it. Even no pic can still be reported. Phone #'s are in the kiosks -or message me & I will pass it along to the DEC.
Of course -DEC wants no confrontations.
Last week, the quad tracks led from the Chimney side, towards the TSP and went in a damn mile. They are probably coming in from Pond Gut road? _________________ Pedal, b*tches!! |

Could be why I didn't see any sign of a trailer or truck capable of carrying them at TSP parking lot when I heard then. Wouldn't surprise me if they did. Maybe time for some big rocks and logs at Pond Gut lot? _________________ Studies have shown that riding a bicycle everyday makes you more awesome than the general population. |

2:00-4:00pm. A little sloggy in spots, especially Mercury-Mustang. I learned that it is really fun to come into frost heaves at full speed and crunch your way through!
Timbuk2 was good. Bykhed was rockin. |

Blocked the quad tracks today with 2 heavy logs onto lower Bykhed. Hopefully this will discourage them from coming on the trail. Trail is behind the barricade. Unfortunately there are some drag marks from where I dragged the downed logs to block it off. Sean - I'm certain this was the spot...hopefully it's it!

Hi all!
I have a concern on the exit from getaway (nearest to fisher where that steep jeep road is)
I know it was re-routed a few years back and now has a fall-away slight turn and than bail to the left. It hasn't burned in the way IMHO should have. It now has very proud (exposed) roots acting as rails perp. and down hill from the fall line.
Sun morning I came tearing into it, the roots took my phatty like she was on greased rails and I T'd into the sharp rock on the right, breaking a rib under my collar bone. (don't worry still rode for another 1 1/2 hours)
Tim, gordo (and other trail stewards), next time your down there would you take a look at it and see if you think it's properly built for typical trail erosion.
It most likely is rider error (I was hitting things at race pace) I just have noticed it's been wearing funny in that spot, and it bit me.
I hope this makes sense, I on some Vicodin for the ribs (bonus) _________________ I like big bikes and I can not lie. |
